Dr. Yvonne A Tracey

Justice

As a past General President of the Connectional Lay Council of the A. M. E. Zion Church, she is credited with providing vision and leadership that took the organization to new heights. Before being elected to the Connectional Lay Council presidency in July 2009; she served as 1st Vice President from 2005 to 2009; Education Chair from 2002-2005 and Special projects Chair from 2001-2002.

She worships with the Soldiers Memorial A. M. E. Zion Church Family in Salisbury, NC. She serves as Parent Body President of the Anna Hauser Parent Body, WH&OMS; Director of Christian Education. She provides energetic leadership for local church ministries and in raising the required askings, and assessments. She stands in the gap as a well-rounded and holistic lay leader serving other local, district and conference leaders who need encouragement and directions on their roles and responsibilities. As District Mission Education Director, she is the longest serving in the Piedmont Episcopal District, having introduced the idea to WH&OMS District President Mrs. Dorothy Gill-Smith who embraced the special appointment and shared the idea with the other District Presidents.

She was elected to the Judicial Council at the 51st Quadrennial Session of the General Conference, July 2021 and District President of the Salisbury District Lay Council in October 2021.

Yvonne has visited the mission fields in South Africa, Eastern West Africa, Western West Africa (especially the Janie Speaks Hospital in Ghana), Bahamas, Kenya, and London, England. She has shared information of the overseas work on numerous occasions.

She was a delegate to the General Conference in 2004, 2008, 2016 and elected as the 1st delegate to the 2021 General Conference. She expanded her ministry to embrace Barber-Scotia College in Concord, NC where from 2008 – MAY 2015 served as VP for Student Affairs and in May 2015 she served as Interim President. She has served on the Board of Trustees for Livingstone College and Hood Theological Seminary in Salisbury, NC. She served on the Executive Board of the World Methodist Council as Chair of the 2011-2016 Nominating Committee, Member of the Youth and Young Adult Committees 2011-2021. She was elected to serve on the Personnel Committee, 2016-2021.

Dr. Tracey was born in New Rochelle, NY and is a product of St. Frances A. M. E. Zion Church in Port Chester, NY. She is the widow of the late Edward O’Neil Tracey, Sr. who played a significant role in the organization and leadership of ushers for the A. M. E. Zion Connection, Piedmont Episcopal District, and the Western North Carolina Conference Board of Ushers. She is the daughter of late George and June Vermong, the step daughter of the late Easter Vermong and the spiritual daughter of the late Dr. Betty V. Stith, the first female and third General President of the Connectional Lay Council. She is the mother of two, Haywood, Jr., and June and the grandmother of four and great grandmother of two.
